About the role#
The Committee for Public Counsel Services Springfield office is seeking law students for a paid internship during the Winter 2027 term. Interns work alongside veteran attorneys, social workers, and investigators to provide legal representation to indigent clients facing criminal charges in District and Superior Courts. You will gain hands-on experience through direct client contact and courtroom advocacy.
What you'll do#
- Conduct client interviews and maintain strict confidentiality regarding all client information.
- Perform legal research and draft pretrial motions, affidavits, and legal memoranda.
- Present arraignment and bail arguments.
- Participate in pretrial investigations, including visiting crime scenes and interviewing witnesses.
- Argue pretrial motions in court.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a law student.
- Successful completion of, or current enrollment in, an evidence or trial practice class.
- Written approval from your Dean for SJC Rule 3:03 representation.
- SJC Rule 3.03 certification is preferred.
- Coursework in criminal law, evidence, constitutional law, critical legal theory, or trial advocacy is preferred.
