About the role#
The Committee for Public Counsel Services Salem Public Defender Division offers law students the chance to work alongside veteran attorneys, social workers, and investigators. You will provide legal representation and advocacy for indigent clients facing criminal charges in District and Superior Courts. This position requires a commitment to client confidentiality regarding all case information and work performed.
What you'll do#
- Conduct client interviews.
- Assist with arraignment and bail arguments.
- Perform legal research.
- Draft pretrial motions, affidavits, and legal memoranda.
- Conduct pretrial investigations, including visiting crime scenes and interviewing witnesses.
- Argue pretrial motions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school.
- Completion of or current enrollment in an evidence or trial practice class.
- SJC Rule 3.03 certification.
- Written approval from your Dean to represent clients in court.
