About the role#
CMC is hiring an Engineering Intern to work on-site in Birmingham, Alabama. This is a full-time, paid position that offers hands-on experience in the construction and steel industries. You will work across departments to learn technical skills and contribute to process improvement projects. This role requires a commitment to a 40-hour work week and the ability to work in various weather and temperature conditions.
What you'll do#
- Cross-train within the department to gain hands-on experience.
- Complete and analyze time and motion studies.
- Document processes and suggest changes.
- Collaborate with leadership on process improvement initiatives.
- Create, review, and update process flow layouts.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for cost savings.
- Present a final report on an improvement project at the end of the internship.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a similar field.
- Junior or Senior level standing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows processes.
- Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to meet attendance standards and work overtime as necessary, including weekends and holidays.
- Capacity to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and kneeling.
- Knowledge of Lean tools and ISO work instructions is preferred.
- Previous internship experience is preferred.
