About the role#
This is a 12-week, full-time, paid internship based on-site at one of our pulp and paper mills. You will work directly with department managers and engineers to address environmental, regulatory, and production challenges. This role involves hands-on work in an industrial setting where you will help design and maintain systems that support our operational and sustainability goals.
What you'll do#
- Partner with engineers to learn the end-to-end papermaking cycle.
- Identify operational efficiencies and recommend improvement projects.
- Collaborate with plant staff and departmental leaders.
- Manage environmental compliance tasks including air quality modeling, hazardous waste tracking, and regulatory reporting.
- Oversee drinking water and wastewater system monitoring.
- Conduct environmental lab analysis, field surveys, risk assessments, and chemical inventories.
- Support company-wide sustainability initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Environmental Science, Engineering, or Chemistry degree program.
- A minimum 3.0 overall GPA.
- Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and self-motivation.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment that includes extreme temperatures, noise, dust, and moving equipment.
- Use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, as we do not offer visa sponsorship for this position.
