About the role#
This internship provides experience in the design and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities. You will work under the direction of the Electric T&D Specialist to support the department goals. The primary focus is completing design and engineering functions for electric poles identified for replacement.
What you'll do#
- Create engineered drawings for electric poles identified for replacement.
- Design line extensions for new large-scale commercial and industrial customers.
- Redesign existing electrical facilities to accommodate load changes or construction activity.
- Perform engineering design for reinforcement projects and preventative maintenance.
- Prepare job sketches, material lists, and cost estimates for electric construction.
- Review electric plans for compliance with service standards and national codes.
- Coordinate with outside agencies to obtain necessary construction permits.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program for Electrical Engineering at an ABET-accredited institution.
- Completion of at least one year of college.
- A valid driver’s license (minimum Class F).
- Willingness to learn AutoCAD and GIS software.
- Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain to survey facilities.
- Ability to pass the Ishihara color vision test.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Springfield, Missouri.
- Work is on-site between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
- Interns work 20-25 hours per week during school semesters and 40 hours per week during the summer.
- Total hours worked cannot exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year.
