About the role#
The Coastal Classroom internship offers high school students hands-on experience in environmental education. You will work with middle school students to explore coastal ecology and maritime training. This program runs for 12 weeks starting in mid-October. Interns work 2 to 4 hours per week and receive $17.00 per hour.
What you'll do#
- Help lead groups of middle school students in lessons about marine ecology and rowing.
- Support the lead educator with office tasks and lesson preparation.
- Write for the program blog and help gather materials for social media.
- Collect data and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain, repair, and protect equipment like boats, waders, nets, and water quality kits.
- Assist with site setup and breakdown, which includes moving heavy equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in high school.
- Minimum age of 16 by October 1, 2026.
- Basic knowledge of coastal ecology, such as marine ecosystems or data analysis.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to punctuality and regular attendance.
- Willingness to work outdoors and handle physical tasks.

- This is a paid, on-site internship for the Fall 2026 term.
- Placements are located in New York, NY, specifically at sites in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
