About the role#
This internship supports the Traffic Operations Division of the Public Works Department. You will assist the civil engineer with field data collection and office-based tasks. This is a part-time position working less than 20 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Use software to generate traffic count and speed zone reports.
- Conduct intersection turning movement counts, either by hand or using a traffic count board.
- Place and remove traffic counters, speed radar trailers, and other field devices.
- Assist with traffic studies, including signal warrants and parking travel time.
- Interpret collision diagrams and police accident records.
- Enter accident data into the city database.
- Handle multiple tasks to support both internal and external customers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Civil Engineering undergraduate student is preferred.
- Working knowledge of ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro, MS Excel, and MS Word.
- Ability to apply engineering principles, data management, and time management techniques.
- Effective communication skills for both written and oral tasks.
- Ability to work safely and independently on heavily traveled roadways.
- A valid driver license.
- Ability to lift field equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
