About the role#
The Montana Department of Transportation is hiring eight students for the MDT/MSU Design Unit in Bozeman. This role offers a path to learn the road design process, including survey work, geometric design, CADD drafting, and hydraulics. You will work full-time during the summer and transition to a part-time schedule during the school year. This position is part of a career ladder with opportunities for advancement.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply road design principles.
- Perform CADD drafting and surveying tasks.
- Assist with highway plans, specifications, and design standards for various road types.
- Use engineering mathematics, specifically geometry and trigonometry, in daily design tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment at MSU-Bozeman in good standing.
- Completion of at least 30 credit hours in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or Environmental Engineering by the end of the Fall 2026 semester.
- Knowledge of CADD drafting and surveying methods.
- Familiarity with highway design standards and engineering mathematics.
