About the role#
This internship supports the Backstretch Recreation program at Churchill Downs Racetrack. You will work with the backside community, which includes the people who work in the stable area and Trackside Training Center. This is a paid, on-site position for the Fall 2026 term, requiring 20 to 25 hours per week. You should have evening availability between 4pm and 8pm.
What you'll do#
- Maintain regular hours in the recreation hall to support community needs.
- Create flyers, tournament rules, and announcements in both English and Spanish.
- Set up and clean up for recreational events, including managing tables, chairs, and decorations.
- Communicate directly with event attendees in English and Spanish regarding schedules and tickets.
- Interpret and translate between Spanish and English during program activities.
- Assist with the execution of community celebrations, sports tournaments, and excursions.
- Help track participant registration and attendee information.
What you'll need#
- Mandatory bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with individuals from varying backgrounds.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Availability to work some weekends and evenings.
- Current enrollment in a relevant field such as Communications, Human Resources, Psychology, or Sociology.
