About the role#
This internship is for senior nursing students interested in the Surgical-Medical Pediatric Critical Care unit. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to gain hands-on experience in a 44-bed intensive care environment. This is an unpaid, casual position that does not include benefits. You must be able to commit to one 12-hour shift per week, which may be scheduled during the day or night.
What you'll do#
- Perform nursing tasks as trained and demonstrate competency through a skills checklist.
- Assist in the care of chronic and medical patients, including those with tracheotomies.
- Support postoperative needs for patients recovering from neuro-surgical procedures, trauma, and organ transplants.
- Help manage patients requiring intensive airway management and physiologic monitoring.
What you'll need#
- Senior status in a nursing program.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council.
- Ability to lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Strong communication skills to follow detailed instructions regarding patient care and transport.
