About the role#
This paid Surgical Technician Internship provides hands-on experience in a Pediatric Level I Trauma and Surgical Center. Interns gain exposure to nine surgical specialties, including general surgery, trauma, urology, craniofacial and plastics, ENT, orthopedics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, cardiovascular, and solid organ transplant. This is a full-time position with a rolling term and flexible hours designed to accommodate your school schedule.
What you'll do#
- Prepare for surgical procedures by arranging sterile setups of instruments, sponges, sutures, and supplies based on surgeon preferences.
- Assist surgeons by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating equipment needs during procedures.
- Scrub for simple and intermediate surgical cases while following aseptic practices.
- Manage room turnover and consult with physicians before cases to ensure all necessary equipment is ready.
- Perform sponge and needle counts before, during, and after surgical closures.
- Identify and receive surgical specimens, placing them in proper preservatives for the circulating nurse.
- Monitor and report any issues regarding equipment and supplies to management.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a Surgical Technology Program (must be within one year of graduation and provide proof of enrollment).
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council.
- Ability to understand the specific supply and equipment needs of neonatal, infant, child, and adolescent patients.
