About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience within a Pediatric Level I Trauma and Surgical Center. Interns gain exposure to nine surgical specialties, including general surgery, trauma, urology, neurosurgery, and solid organ transplant, while working in a clinical environment dedicated to pediatric care.
What you'll do#
- Prepare for surgical procedures by arranging sterile setups for instruments, sponges, and sutures based on surgeon preferences.
- Assist surgeons by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating equipment needs during procedures.
- Scrub for simple and intermediate surgical cases while following aseptic practices.
- Manage room turnover and ensure all necessary supplies are ready before cases begin.
- Perform sponge and needle counts and handle surgical specimens according to safety protocols.
- Identify and report any issues regarding equipment or supplies to the management team.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a Surgical Technology program, with eligibility limited to those within one year of graduation (proof of enrollment required).
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council.
