About the role#
As a Counselor Intern with the Cherry Creek School District, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed school counselor. This role focuses on promoting student engagement, motivation, and adjustment through counseling and consultation techniques. You will support students from all backgrounds as they navigate their academic and personal goals.
What you'll do#
- Provide services to students through individual and group counseling, classroom involvement, and consultation.
- Help students identify their interests, skills, and aptitude to align with their postgraduate plans.
- Assist teachers in creating flexible classroom environments that encourage student growth.
- Provide information to parents and guardians regarding child development and available community resources.
- Support mental health team assessments and data collection efforts.
- Assist with scheduling, registration, and My Career and Academic Plan implementation.
- Attend individualized education plan meetings and help manage 504 plans as requested.
- Help facilitate problem-solving teams and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
- Establish positive rapport with students, families, and district stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master’s degree program in school counseling.
- One year of prior professional experience in schools, nonprofits, or community organizations.
- Experience with trauma-informed practices and working with diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of the American School Counselor Association national model and Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to adhere to professional ethical standards from organizations such as the American Counseling Association and National Association of Social Workers.
- Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting process.
- Colorado Special Services Provider Internship Authorization is required if you intend to substitute teach.
