About the role#
Caring Hands Animal Hospital offers a hands-on externship program for students currently enrolled in an accredited Veterinary Technician program. This role provides practical experience in a clinical setting to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work directly with our team of veterinarians, technicians, and support staff in a collaborative environment.
What you'll do#
- Assist with examinations, diagnostics, and treatments.
- Administer medications and vaccinations.
- Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures.
- Conduct laboratory tests including bloodwork and urinalysis.
- Take radiographs.
- Provide care for hospitalized animals.
- Educate pet owners on preventive care.
- Help maintain a clean and organized work environment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Veterinary Technician program.
- A strong interest in animal care and a desire to learn.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Enthusiasm for participating in patient care.
- Basic knowledge of animal handling and medical terminology is helpful but not required.

- Location: Alexandria, Virginia.
- This is an on-site, full-time, paid position.
- The program term is rolling.
- You will receive mentorship from experienced veterinary professionals and gain exposure to routine and emergency care.
