About the role#
Caring Hands Animal Hospital offers a DVM Student Externship and Preceptorship Program in Ashburn, Virginia. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice. Externships are flexible and typically last two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to align with your college curriculum. You will work alongside our veterinary team, receive mentorship, and participate in patient care. We provide a stipend of $250 per week.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in managing medical cases.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Build client communication skills and refine technical abilities.
- Document care by producing medical records, such as SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Valid professional liability insurance.
