About the role#
Caring Hands Animal Hospital offers a DVM externship program for students seeking practical experience in a small animal practice. This program supports your clinical education by providing hands-on training under the guidance of a mentor doctor. You will work alongside our veterinary team to handle real cases and refine your skills in a professional setting. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to fit your curriculum.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Create diagnostic and therapeutic plans for medical cases.
- Scrub in to assist with surgeries.
- Provide wellness care and manage medical cases.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Produce accurate medical records and SOAP notes.
- Participate in all aspects of patient care under veterinary supervision.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional attitude and commitment to ethical standards.
