About the role#
Caring Hands Animal Hospital offers externship and preceptorship opportunities for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team under the guidance of an assigned mentor to meet your specific learning goals or college requirements.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily operations of a small animal practice. Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Assist in managing medical cases and providing wellness care.
- Scrub into surgeries.
- Practice your client communication and technical skills.
- Produce medical records, including SOAPs, within daily practice time limits.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional demeanor and adherence to our practice standards.
Location & details#
- Location: Rockville, Maryland.
- Modality: On-site.
- Duration: Flexible, typically two to eight weeks. Schedules include days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
