About the role#
Caring Hands Animal Hospital offers a practical externship program for veterinary students. This program provides hands-on experience in a small animal practice to support your clinical training. You will work alongside a mentor doctor to meet your specific educational goals and learning objectives. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum. You will work a schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Assist in managing medical cases and providing wellness care.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub into surgeries and refine your technical skills.
- Produce medical records and SOAPs within daily practice time limits.
- Build your client communication skills.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act and required supervision levels.
- A professional approach to dress and conduct.
