About the role#
Caring Hands Animal Hospital offers a flexible externship and preceptorship program for students currently enrolled in a DVM program. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for clinical work after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team, with a mentor assigned to support your learning objectives and provide a written evaluation at the end of your rotation.
What you'll do#
- Gather histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for patients.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in managing medical cases.
- Provide wellness care.
- Develop your client communication skills.
- Practice technical skills and produce medical records within daily time limits.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
Location & details#
- Location: Bristow, Virginia.
- Duration: Rolling basis, typically two to eight weeks.
- Modality: On-site, including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: $250 per week stipend.
