About the role#
Caring Hands Animal Hospital offers a DVM externship program for students to gain practical experience in a small animal practice. This program supports your clinical preparation by providing hands-on experience under the supervision of a mentor doctor. Externships are flexible, typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to align with your college curriculum. You will work a schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends. A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for medical cases.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in patient management.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Develop client communication skills and refine technical abilities.
- Produce medical records, including SOAPs, within daily practice time limits.
- Participate in patient care while following the Veterinary Practice Act.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Ability to maintain professional conduct and follow practice standards.
