About the role#
This is an 8-month, full-time summer internship based at our Horizon or Albian Oil Sands sites. You will join the Environment team to support reclamation operations and conduct field surveys. This position is primarily field-based, providing hands-on experience in environmental monitoring and data collection.
What you'll do#
- Collect soil, vegetation, water, and wildlife data using manual and electronic methods.
- Monitor reclamation activities such as soil salvage, placement, and revegetation.
- Conduct field surveys, including disturbance mapping, pre-salvage assessments, and wetland monitoring.
- Perform environmental inspections and assist with weed monitoring and control.
- Compile environmental data for regulatory reporting and internal tracking.
- Use ArcGIS tools like Field Maps and Survey123 to manage and analyze field data.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year undergraduate or master’s program in Land Reclamation, Forestry, Environmental, Biology, or Natural Science.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract.
- Physical ability to handle the rigors of outdoor field work with long days.
- Previous experience in reclamation field work is an asset.
- Experience using ArcGIS collectors is an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Fort McMurray, AB.
- Term: 8 months, starting May 2027.
- Schedule: 8 days on, 6 days off, 10 hours per day.
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
- Company-sponsored fly-in/fly-out service is available from Calgary or Edmonton.
