About the role#
The Student Manager for Event Operations oversees the daily operations of the event staff, including the supervision of 15 to 20 student employees. This role serves as a key liaison between ASI and various campus departments, ensuring that event programs and services align with institutional policies and safety standards. You will work closely with the University Union leadership team to manage event logistics, coordinate staff schedules, and maintain a professional environment for both staff and participants.
What you'll do#
- Supervise, schedule, and manage daily operations for a team of 15 to 20 student employees.
- Oversee the setup, takedown, and management of concerts, club events, and special events.
- Ensure all area manuals, procedures, and resources are accurate and accessible to staff.
- Produce regular reports, reviews, and assessments of staff area performance.
- Provide quality customer service and act as a primary information source for ASI programs.
- Conduct weekly administrative tasks, including staff meetings, service requests, and coaching sessions.
- Manage risk by monitoring facility usage and adhering to safety and emergency response protocols.
- Coordinate with internal departments to track event hours and reconcile event costs.
What you'll need#
- Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly (minimum 6 units for undergraduates, 4 units for graduate students).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in developing and conducting assessments, reporting, and analyzing results.
- Proficiency in Windows-based computer systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong conflict management, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to supervise peers and foster a cooperative, productive work atmosphere.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information according to policy.
Location & details#
- Location: San Luis Obispo, California.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Availability: Must be available for night and weekend shifts. This position requires a minimum of two consecutive terms of work availability.
- Compensation: $18.90 per hour.
- Hours: Maximum 20 hours per week while classes are in session.
