About the role#
The Student Personal Trainer provides one-on-one and small group fitness instruction at the Cal Poly Recreation Center. This role focuses on designing personalized exercise programs, conducting fitness orientations, and maintaining a safe, inclusive environment for all facility users.
What you'll do#
- Develop and implement customized workout programs tailored to individual client needs and goals.
- Educate clients on proper lifting techniques, exercise physiology, and the safe use of cardiovascular and resistance equipment.
- Provide exercise and diet recommendations to help clients achieve their fitness objectives.
- Maintain accurate client files according to industry standards.
- Provide safe weightlifting spotting techniques.
- Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and outreach marketing events.
- Enforce facility policies and respond to emergency situations as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Cal Poly student (minimum 6 units for undergraduates; 4 units for graduate students).
- Extensive knowledge of exercise physiology and kinesiology.
- A nationally recognized Personal Trainer Certification (NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ACE, or similar).
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain American Red Cross certification in Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid within 30 days of hire.
- Relevant majors include Kinesiology, Health Administration, Public Health, or Biomedical Sciences.
