About the role#
The Student Personal Trainer designs and implements exercise programs for clients at the Cal Poly Recreation Center. This role focuses on providing one-on-one or small group training, conducting exercise orientations, and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for all participants. Trainers are expected to build professional relationships with clients while maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to facility safety standards.
What you'll do#
- Develop and implement personalized workout programs tailored to client goals and needs.
- Educate clients on safe and proper use of cardiovascular, resistance, and free weight equipment.
- Provide guidance on basic exercise physiology, lifting techniques, and spotter safety.
- Offer recommendations regarding exercise and diet to help clients meet fitness objectives.
- Maintain organized client files and records according to industry standards.
- Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and outreach events.
- Enforce facility policies and respond to emergency procedures as required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Cal Poly student with at least 6 units (or 4 units for graduate students).
- Nationally recognized Personal Trainer Certification (NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ACE, or equivalent).
- Extensive knowledge of exercise physiology, kinesiology, and safe training procedures.
- Current American Red Cross certification in Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid (required within 30 days of hire).
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
- Experience in supervising or instructing participants in a fitness setting is preferred.
