About the role#
As an Optical Engineering Intern, you will join a team focused on complex technical challenges. You will work on projects tailored to your interests and strengths while supporting the development of large reflective remote sensing systems. This is a part-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027 located in Danbury, Connecticut.
What you'll do#
- Perform optical system modeling and execute design tasks.
- Design reflective optical systems using Zemax.
- Analyze interferometric data with tools such as 4D or MetroPro.
- Create and review error budgets for SFE/WFE performance.
- Model optical characteristics, including PSD or Encircled Energy.
- Conduct hands-on optical engineering work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master's degree program in Optical Engineering or a closely related field.
- If your degree is outside of Optical Engineering, you must demonstrate a working knowledge of the fundamentals.
- Understanding of geometrical and Fourier optics.
- Experience or coursework in optical system modeling.
- Familiarity with interferometry and related analytical tools.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher and previous internship or work experience are preferred.

- Compensation: This is a paid position with a salary range of $55,600 to $111,100.
