About the role#
As a Data Engineering Intern, you will spend the summer building the datasets and pipelines that teams across Buildertrend rely on to make decisions. You will work alongside experienced data engineers to turn raw data from sources like Salesforce and SQL Server into curated, trustworthy datasets. This role is a chance to sharpen your technical skills and ship work that helps the business run on numbers people can trust.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain ELT/ETL pipelines to create clean, usable datasets.
- Write SQL to transform and model data for BI, product analytics, and ML/AI use cases.
- Partner with data engineers and analysts to define requirements before you build.
- Learn our modern data stack, including Databricks, dbt, and a medallion approach to organizing data.
- Run data quality and freshness checks to ensure accuracy.
- Document your work, including table definitions, column notes, and diagrams.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up coding and debugging.
- Complete projects within established sprint timelines.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field.
- Availability to work full-time onsite in Omaha, NE, for the full summer.
- Familiarity with SQL and at least one programming language, such as Python.
- Strong interest in data engineering, ETL/ELT processes, and supporting analytics.
- Curiosity about tools like Databricks and dbt.
- Experience or strong interest in using AI tools for development.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to ask questions and apply feedback.
Location & details#
- Location: Omaha, NE (On-site at Buildertrend HQ).
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $28 per hour.
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
