About the role#
Breakthrough Central Texas is seeking Program & Advising Fellows for an AmeriCorps service year running from Fall 2026 through Summer 2027. This full-time, on-site role focuses on supporting middle school, high school, and postsecondary students on their path to college and career success. Members serve as mentors and advisors, providing individualized academic support and program implementation to help students achieve their postsecondary goals.
What you'll do#
- Provide academic support services to students at the Breakthrough office or at the student’s campus.
- Mentor students on the skills and strategies needed for success in attaining postsecondary goals.
- Communicate with students and families regularly regarding progress and needs.
- Track and communicate updates on student progress to relevant stakeholders, including families, teachers, and team members.
- Participate actively in all training, professional development, civic reflection, and service activities.
- Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of student programs and summer activities.
- Act as a role model and maintain cultural competence when working with vulnerable populations.
What you'll need#
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident.
- A strong commitment to community service and the ability to serve for the complete program year.
- Effective communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively on a team and adapt to changing roles.
- Ability to manage concurrent issues and meet deadlines.
- Bilingual (Spanish) skills are strongly preferred.
- Reliable personal transportation.
- Majors in Psychology, Sociology, Communications, Human Resources, Business Administration, or Public Health are relevant to this service experience.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: September 2026 – August 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Full-time (40-50 hours per week), including some nights and weekends for scheduled events and student needs.
