    About the role#

    The Graduate Researcher Program is a 10-12 week internship designed for PhD students. You will join the Composite Materials & Structures team to support research and development for next-generation aerospace structures. This role provides exposure to Boeing products and services while you work alongside engineering teams. Please note that work performed during this internship cannot be used in your PhD thesis.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the development and documentation of engineering requirements, specifications, and process controls for composite materials.
    • Assist with experimental research, including the characterization, processing, and testing of advanced composites.
    • Evaluate and integrate manufacturing technologies like automation and additive manufacturing.
    • Participate in failure analysis and define corrective actions for materials and processes.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in manufacturing, design, and supply chain to optimize materials.
    • Support supplier qualification efforts through testing and audits.
    • Document experimental data and prepare technical reports and presentations.

    What you'll need#

    • Completion of the first year of a PhD program by July 2027.
    • Enrollment in a PhD program for Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
    • Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2027.
    • Knowledge or hands-on experience with composite materials.
    • Familiarity with materials failure mechanisms and testing standards.
    • Proficiency in data analysis using tools like MATLAB or Python.
    • Strong communication skills for documenting and presenting technical findings.
    • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
    • Preferred: Experience in aerospace composite structures, advanced manufacturing, CAD software, or finite element analysis.
