About the role#
Beam Therapeutics is seeking a Co-op to join the Gene Editing Platform Technologies team from January through June 2027. You will work alongside scientists to engineer and optimize gene editing systems for therapeutic programs. This role involves co-developing experimental plans, generating reagents, and evaluating performance in mammalian cell culture. You will gain exposure to various research platform and therapeutic-area teams.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate with project leaders to meet ongoing research needs.
- Follow laboratory protocols and maintain compliant electronic laboratory notebook documentation.
- Perform routine mammalian cell culture maintenance.
- Support reagent generation, including small-scale mRNA production in a high-throughput environment.
- Conduct mammalian cell transfection and genomic DNA isolation experiments.
- Register and submit samples for NGS analysis.
- Analyze and interpret data in collaboration with project leads.
- Present findings and results in various meeting formats.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree-granting college or university program pursuing a BA, BSc, or MS in a life science, such as Biology or Biomedical Sciences.
- At least 1 year of laboratory experience in an academic group or in industry.
- Proficiency in molecular biology and cell culture workflows, including sterile technique, PCR, and cell transfection.
- Experience with bioinformatic and data analysis tools like Benchling, Geneious, GraphPad Prism, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
