About the role#
The Baylor University Institute for Oral History is hiring a Graduate Student Editor. This is a part-time position requiring at least 10 hours of work per week between 8am and 5pm. This role is based on-site at the Carroll Library in Waco, Texas.
What you'll do#
- Audit-check transcripts by listening to recordings and comparing them to the text.
- Correct errors in transcription and decipher unclear words.
- Research and verify the spelling of proper nouns and technical terminology.
- Edit transcripts for punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and style using the BUIOH Style Manual and the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Summarize interview content by creating abstracts for researchers.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all interview materials.
- Submit your worklogs and time cards every two weeks.
- Keep a clean, quiet, and professional workspace.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a graduate student, preferably in History or a related field.
- Ability to edit transcripts for accuracy and style.
- Skill in researching terminology and proper nouns.
- Reliable attendance and the ability to follow a consistent work schedule.
- Respect for the confidential nature of the work.
Location & details#
- Location: Carroll Library, Waco, Texas.
- Schedule: Minimum 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
- Employment: Part-time, ongoing.
