Student Employee - Library Assistant

About the role#

The Library Assistant role at Bay Mills Community College supports the library's mission by providing academic assistance and maintaining library operations. This position is part-time, offering up to 20 hours per week, and may include evening and weekend shifts. The role qualifies as Federal Work Study (FWS) community service, supporting literacy and educational needs for learners ranging from preschool age to adults.

What you'll do#

• Provide one-on-one or group tutoring to library guests.
• Support reading, writing, and basic academic skills for community members and students.
• Assist with communication literacy activities and help guests utilize library resources.
• Manage library organization, including shelving, reorganizing, and maintaining a neat workspace.
• Perform circulation and basic cataloging tasks using computer systems.
• Assist with Inter-Library Loan processes and ACCUPLACER placement testing.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and library guests.

What you'll need#

• Must be a degree-seeking student at Bay Mills Community College.
• Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress: a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
• Completion of at least 67% of attempted credits at the college on a cumulative basis.
• Enrollment in a minimum of 6 credits for the semester of the award.
• Maintain a class attendance rate of 70% or higher.
• Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to operate office equipment such as printers, copiers, and fax machines.
• Strong communication, organizational, and guest service skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional integrity.
