About the role#
The Student Employee Library Assistant position provides support for reading, writing, and basic academic skills for library guests ranging from preschool through adult learners. This role is part-time, up to 20 hours per week, and may include evening and weekend shifts. This position qualifies as Federal Work Study community service.
What you'll do#
- Support reading, writing, and basic academic skills for library guests.
- Assist individuals with books, library resources, and literacy-related activities.
- Communicate with and provide service to staff, faculty, students, and other library guests.
- Utilize computer functions for circulation and basic cataloging.
- Maintain library organization by shelving, reorganizing, and keeping the workspace neat.
- Process Inter-Library Loan books, including ordering, circulation, and packaging.
- Assist with scheduling and proctoring ACCUPLACER placement tests for students.
- Provide one-on-one or group tutoring to library guests.
What you'll need#
- Must be a degree-seeking student at Bay Mills Community College.
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits for the semester the position is awarded.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Completion of 67% of credits attempted at Bay Mills Community College on a cumulative basis.
- Maintain class attendance of 70% or higher.
- Must be eligible for Federal Work Study funding.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and recording software.
- Ability to operate office equipment such as copiers, printers, and fax machines.
- Strong communication, organizational, and guest service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate professional integrity.
