About the role#
This internship is based at the Dakota Gasification Company in Beulah, North Dakota. You will provide project-based assistance to the Maintenance Engineering team during the summer of 2027. The role offers hands-on experience with plant equipment, including rotating machinery like pumps and turbines, as well as stationary equipment such as piping, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
What you'll do#
- Assist with equipment failure analysis and root cause identification.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and conduct condition monitoring.
- Use predictive maintenance technologies, including acoustic ultrasound, infrared cameras, and vibration data collection equipment.
- Perform leak surveys and monitor turbine and compressor performance.
- Update plant drawings and revise equipment Bills of Materials.
- Manage equipment data within Asset Suite and APM software.
- Help engineers with outage work, such as overhauls, inspections, and piping repairs.
- Complete minor projects aimed at equipment improvement.
- Follow all safety, security, and procedural guidelines.
- Assist with the annual Family Night event.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in an ABET-accredited four-year Mechanical Engineering program.
- Completion of your sophomore year or graduation within the last 12 months.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- A valid driver's license.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A copy of your transcript must be attached to your application for review.
- Previous internship or relevant work experience is preferred.
- Additional certifications or specific coursework in the field are a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Beulah, North Dakota.
- Term: Summer 2027 (approximately May 17 to August 20).
- Modality: This is an on-site, full-time position.
- Compensation: Paid at $26.50 per hour.
- Note: This position requires physical activity including walking, climbing, and working at heights. You may be exposed to noise, dust, and extreme temperatures. You must be able to wear required safety equipment, including respirators.
