About the role#
Bascom Hunter is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the development, analysis, and testing of aerospace and defense systems. You will gain hands-on experience with thermal management, precision rotating machinery, and mechanical packaging. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams on projects ranging from early concepts to final testing and documentation.
What you'll do#
- Create 3D models and mechanical designs using SolidWorks or other CAD tools.
- Support structural, thermal, and fluid analysis to optimize system performance.
- Assist with the development of thermal systems and precision rotating machinery, including compressor projects.
- Build and test prototypes while helping conduct experiments and analyze data.
- Evaluate materials and manufacturing processes for performance, weight, and durability.
- Prepare engineering documentation, including technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to support integrated system development.
- Help build out engineering laboratory and test capabilities.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Junior or Senior standing preferred).
- Proficiency with CAD software, specifically SolidWorks.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience with mechanical design, prototyping, or testing.
- Knowledge of thermal systems, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, or rotating machinery.
- Familiarity with aerospace or defense industry standards and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Programming or data analysis experience is a plus.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required.

- Location: Glendale, Arizona.
- This is a paid, on-site internship.
- The role is full-time, with flexible start and end dates based on your academic schedule.
