About the role#
Bascom Hunter is looking for an Industrial Engineering Intern to support process improvement and operational efficiency across our aerospace and defense operations. You will work alongside engineering, manufacturing, and technical teams to evaluate existing workflows, identify constraints, and implement solutions that improve quality and consistency. This role allows you to own projects from initial problem definition through data collection and final implementation.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate engineering, operations, and manufacturing processes to find efficiency gains.
- Collaborate with technicians and engineers to understand daily workflows and process challenges.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends and operational bottlenecks.
- Develop data-driven recommendations to address specific technical problems.
- Assist with capacity planning, resource utilization, and process mapping.
- Create metrics to track the performance and effectiveness of new improvements.
- Support the implementation of standardized practices and process controls.
- Improve the flow of materials, information, and documentation through the shop floor.
- Manage your own projects against established schedules and objectives.
- Prepare reports and presentations to share findings with multidisciplinary teams.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program for Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data.
- Excellent organizational habits and attention to detail.
- A proactive approach to taking ownership of assigned tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with diverse team members.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team.
- Familiarity with process improvement, Lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma is a plus.
- Experience with data visualization or statistical analysis tools.
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes within aerospace or defense.
- Previous experience through internships, research, or project teams.
