About the role#
This internship focuses on Rail Design. You will work in a collaborative environment to gain practical experience across various project phases. You will learn about the processes and values that guide our employee-owned firm while working alongside experienced engineers and technicians.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine engineering tasks to gain familiarity with methods and programs.
- Assist with drafting and plan development.
- Compile project data and complete basic design calculations.
- Participate in in-office planning and design work.
- Conduct out-of-office field investigations and site visits.
- Learn about survey activities, including the operation of GPS and conventional equipment.
- Observe construction processes and field tests.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including contractors and public clients.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a technical school or a bachelor's degree program in Civil, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, with at least one year completed.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge or experience with CAD software, survey software, or Trimble Business Center.
- Strong math skills and the ability to interpret plans and specifications.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- A safety-oriented mindset and the ability to pass safety training.
- A valid driver's license with a good driving record.

- Location: Overland Park, Kansas.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time, paid.
- Travel: Approximately 10% travel required for field work and meetings.
