About the role#
This internship focuses on Wastewater and Renewable Energy projects. You will work alongside engineers and technicians to gain practical experience in civil engineering. The role involves participating in various project phases while learning the internal processes of an employee-owned firm.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine engineering tasks to gain familiarity with methods and programs.
- Assist with drafting and help develop full project plans.
- Conduct in-office planning and design work, including data compilation and basic design calculations.
- Perform field investigations and site visits, including travel for construction projects and meetings.
- Learn to operate GPS and conventional survey equipment.
- Observe construction processes and field tests.
- Collaborate with internal teams like landscape architects and surveyors, as well as external clients and contractors.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a technical school or a bachelor's degree program in Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering, with at least one year completed.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Aptitude for interpreting plans and specifications.
- Strong math skills and organizational abilities.
- Ability to pass safety classes and maintain a safety-oriented mindset.
- Experience or exposure to CAD, Civil 3D, or survey software is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team-oriented skills.

- Location: Lawrence, Kansas.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling.
- Travel: Approximately 10% of the time for field work and meetings.
- Requirements: Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain an acceptable driving record. An offer is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen.
