About the role#
This internship focuses on transportation engineering. You will work in a collaborative environment to gain practical experience across various project phases. You will be introduced to the core values of the firm and gain exposure to the benefits of an employee-owned company.
What you'll do#
- Receive on-the-job training for engineering activities and general procedures.
- Assist with basic drafting and contribute to full plan development alongside engineers or senior technicians.
- Perform routine tasks to become familiar with engineering methods and programs.
- Learn about survey activities, including the operation of GPS and conventional equipment.
- Gain knowledge of construction observation processes and field tests.
- Collaborate with a wide range of internal staff, including landscape architects, surveyors, and design technicians, as well as external partners like contractors and public clients.
- Balance in-office planning and design work with field investigations and site visits.
- Compile project data and perform basic engineering design calculations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a technical school or a current student in a Civil, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering program.
- Completion of at least one year in a Bachelor’s degree program.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Aptitude to interpret plans and specifications, plus strong math skills.
- Initiative, responsibility, and a team-oriented mindset.
- Knowledge or experience with CAD software, survey software, or Trimble Business Center is preferred.
- Ability to pass safety classes and maintain a safety-oriented mentality.
- Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.

- Travel: Occasional travel (minimum 10 percent) for field work or meetings is required.
- Requirements: This is a paid position. Offers are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen and maintaining an acceptable driving record.
