About the role#
This internship focuses on transportation engineering. You will work in a collaborative environment to gain practical experience across various project phases. You will learn about our internal processes and how our teams operate as an employee-owned firm.
What you'll do#
- Receive on-the-job training for engineering activities and routine tasks.
- Assist with plan development alongside engineers and technicians.
- Perform in-office planning and design work, as well as out-of-office field investigations and site visits.
- Learn about survey activities, including the operation of GPS and conventional survey equipment.
- Gain exposure to construction observation processes and field tests.
- Compile data and perform basic engineering design calculations.
- Work with a range of internal staff, such as landscape architects and surveyors, as well as external clients and contractors.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a technical school or a bachelor degree program in civil, computer, electrical, or mechanical engineering, with at least one year of coursework completed.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Ability to interpret plans and specifications, along with strong math skills.
- Knowledge of or experience with CAD software, Civil 3D, or Trimble Business Center is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Initiative, flexibility, and a team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to pass safety training and maintain a safety-conscious approach.
- 0-6 months of experience.

- Locations: Overland Park, KS and Topeka, KS.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time.
- Travel: Approximately 10% travel required for field work, site visits, and meetings. This requires a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
- Status: This is a paid, rolling internship.
