About the role#
This internship focuses on transportation engineering. You will work in a collaborative environment to gain practical experience across various project phases. You will learn about our internal processes and how an employee-owned firm operates while working alongside experienced staff.
What you'll do#
- Receive on-the-job training for general engineering activities, processes, and procedures.
- Assist with basic drafting and contribute to full plan development under the guidance of engineers or technicians.
- Perform routine tasks to gain familiarity with engineering methods and programs.
- Learn about survey activities, including the operation of GPS and conventional equipment.
- Participate in construction observation processes and field tests.
- Conduct in-office planning and design work alongside out-of-office field investigations and site visits.
- Compile data and perform basic engineering design calculations.
- Coordinate with internal staff, such as landscape architects and surveyors, as well as external clients and contractors.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a technical school or a bachelor’s degree program in Civil, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering with at least one year completed.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and basic math skills.
- Familiarity with or interest in CAD, Civil 3D, or survey software like Trimble Business Center.
- Ability to interpret plans and specifications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- A safety-oriented mindset and the ability to pass required safety training.
- Flexibility to travel for field work, site visits, or meetings, which accounts for approximately 10% of the role.

- This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Jefferson City, Missouri.
- The internship term is rolling.
