About the role#
Barr Engineering Co. is seeking an electrical engineering intern for the summer of 2027. Based in our Minneapolis office, this hybrid position supports our Engineering and Design business unit. You will work with multidisciplinary project teams to provide electrical engineering expertise, including tasks related to power distribution, controls, and instrumentation. This is a full-time, paid internship.
What you'll do#
- Perform basic engineering calculations and analysis.
- Develop design details and assist in creating technical solutions.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and sketches.
- Monitor construction projects, which may involve working in industrial environments with rough terrain or moving machinery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives.
What you'll need#
- Ongoing enrollment in an electrical engineering degree program.
- At least one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate coursework remaining after the internship concludes.
- Completion of at least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software.
- A current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.

- This position is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- The role follows a hybrid work arrangement, splitting time between the office and a home office.
- The internship lasts for three months during the summer of 2027, with flexible start and end dates to accommodate academic schedules.
