Service Technician - Intern

About the role#

This is a full-time, paid summer 2026 internship based on-site in Plymouth, Michigan. You will gain hands-on experience with AVL systems while performing equipment repair, calibration, and maintenance. This role is designed to build a technical foundation in both electrical and mechanical systems within an automotive manufacturing environment.

What you'll do#

• Calibrate and perform preventative and corrective maintenance on AVL equipment.
• Assist in the evaluation and repair of equipment, including installation and configuration.
• Wire control devices and verify their operation.
• Record and document calibrations, diagnostic results, and performance test data.
• Maintain accurate shift logs and administrative records, including timesheets and calibration reports.
• Provide feedback on troubleshooting guides and contribute to continuous improvement methods.
• Complete all required safety training and actively participate in your own training plan.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Industrial Engineering, or Physics.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical repair and precision mechanical assembly.
• Experience with emissions testing and automotive applications.
• Ability to diagnose problems with simple systems.
• Proficiency with fine mechanical hand tools and basic personal computer hardware and software.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
