About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a Predictive Modeler Intern to join the Actuarial Division for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time position based on-site in Lansing, Michigan. Interns typically work from mid-May through mid-August, though specific start and end dates are flexible.
What you'll do#
- Prepare data files for use in modeling software.
- Build and evaluate predictive models.
- Present model proposals for peer review and business approval.
- Create specifications for and coordinate the implementation of models.
- Complete ad-hoc reporting to address inquiries from management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's program for mathematics, statistics, computer science, data mining, machine learning, physics, operations research, or a related quantitative field. Master's students are eligible if graduating in August 2026 or later.
- Completion of at least two years of coursework.
- Understanding of statistical and predictive modeling, specifically clustering and classification techniques.
- Strong aptitude for programming languages.
- Familiarity with SQL, Python, or R is a plus.
- Ability to adapt to change and new processes.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
