About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is hiring an intern for our Personal Lines Underwriting team in Columbia, South Carolina. This is a full-time, paid position for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on-site to gain experience in insurance operations and risk assessment.
What you'll do#
- Learn insurance coverages, contracts, company philosophy, and internal procedures.
- Study company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand how they function.
- Analyze risk factors, including loss experience and financial conditions.
- Gain a working knowledge of different underwriting department sections.
- Communicate with independent agents and internal staff regarding underwriting decisions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in college, entering your junior or senior year.
- Preferred majors include Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
- Ability to organize data, manage multiple tasks, and make independent decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Skill in resolving complex issues.
- Interest in building product knowledge through educational programs.
