About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is hiring an intern for the Personal Lines Underwriting department for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Traverse City, Michigan. You will gain experience in insurance operations while working directly with our team.
What you'll do#
- Learn insurance coverages, contracts, and our company procedures to help make underwriting decisions.
- Study company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand how they are used.
- Review loss experience, financial conditions, and the physical characteristics of specific risks.
- Build a working knowledge of the various sections within the underwriting department.
- Communicate with independent agents and internal staff through writing and conversation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in college, entering your junior or senior year.
- Preferred majors include Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Ability to organize data, manage multiple tasks, and make independent decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to resolve complex issues.
- Interest in developing product knowledge through educational programs.
