About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is hiring a Life/Health Underwriting Intern for the summer of 2027. This full-time, paid position is based in Lansing, Michigan. You will work on-site to gain practical experience in the insurance industry.
What you'll do#
- Learn insurance coverages, contracts, company philosophy, and internal procedures.
- Study company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their application.
- Analyze risk factors including loss experience, financial conditions, and physical characteristics.
- Gain a working knowledge of the various sections within the underwriting department.
- Communicate with independent agents and internal staff through written and verbal channels.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a college student entering your junior or senior year.
- Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
- Ability to organize data, handle multiple tasks, and make independent decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to resolve complex issues.
- Interest in developing product knowledge through educational programs.
- Understanding of health and medical conditions is helpful but not required.
