About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is hiring for a Home Office Underwriting/Audit Internship for the summer of 2027. This full-time, paid position offers students hands-on experience within departments such as Personal or Commercial Lines, Surety Bonds, or the Michigan Audit Department. You will work on-site at our home office in Lansing.
What you'll do#
- Learn insurance coverages, contracts, company philosophy, and procedures to support underwriting decisions.
- Study company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their use.
- Analyze risk factors including loss experience, financial conditions, and physical characteristics.
- Gain a working knowledge of the various sections within the underwriting department.
- Communicate with independent agents and internal employees through written and verbal channels.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in college as an incoming junior or senior.
- Pursuit of a degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
- Ability to organize data, manage multiple tasks, and make independent decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Skill in resolving complex issues.
- Interest in building product knowledge through educational programs.
- Ability to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
