About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is hiring a Business Intelligence Engineering intern for the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Lansing, Michigan. You will work with stakeholders to identify business requirements and translate them into data solutions. You will also participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups and sprint planning.
What you'll do#
- Analyze data processes and user needs to develop project plans.
- Design and manage solutions for data quality, reporting, and governance.
- Build, document, and maintain code used to transform and analyze data.
- Evaluate data reliability, investigate integrity, and solve data problems.
- Create and enhance data extracts to support reporting inquiries.
- Contribute to peer reviews and help develop quality control measures.
- Summarize data assets for internal and external use.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s program for statistics, computer science, data mining, machine learning, mathematics, physics, operations research, or a related quantitative field.
- Completion of at least two years of coursework.
- Master’s students are eligible if graduating in August 2026 or later.
- Ability to apply mathematical, statistical, and programming concepts to insurance processes.
- Strong skills in analytical reasoning, problem solving, technical writing, and presentation.
- Initiative, organization, and the ability to lead projects across diverse groups.
- Capacity to mentor others and work effectively with team members at all levels.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

- This internship is located on-site in Lansing, Michigan.
- The role is full-time, typically running from mid-May through mid-August.
