About the role#
The Biomechanical Research Co-op will assist the research team in Naples, Florida, with in-house cadaveric biomechanical studies. You will help evaluate the safety and efficacy of new surgical techniques by applying engineering and scientific principles. This is a full-time, paid position running from January 2027 through June 2027.
What you'll do#
- Support research engineers with literature reviews, study design, and project execution.
- Prepare samples, including performing cadaveric dissections.
- Conduct biomechanical testing using tension, compression, torsion, and bending methods.
- Analyze data through statistical modeling and create graphical representations of results.
- Maintain the research database through data entry, organization, and filtering.
- Write technical reports and manuscripts.
What you'll need#
- Progress toward a degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering, with preference for juniors or above.
- Recent graduates must be within six months of their graduation date.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with MATLAB or other coding languages.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Experience with mechanical workshop tools, such as drills, bandsaws, screwdrivers, and wrenches.
- Basic assembly experience using vises, clamps, nuts, bolts, and screws.
- Preferred qualifications include prior research experience at an R1 institution, biomechanical research experience, publication history, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and experience with computer-aided design or mechanical testing systems.
