About the role#
Arc is building electric marine technology. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will join our team to help develop hardware for our recreational vessels. You will work on-site at our headquarters in Torrance, California, during the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Own a defined project from initial requirements through design, prototyping, and testing.
- Design and release hardware with mentorship from a full-time engineer, focusing on areas like composite structures, marine systems, or tooling.
- Build and test prototypes in the shop and on the water.
- Help root-cause failures when they occur.
- Create CAD models, technical drawings, and supporting analysis for parts and assemblies.
- Present your work and results to the engineering team.
What you'll need#
- You are currently a junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- You have hands-on engineering experience from a prior internship, project team, research, or personal projects.
- You are proficient in a 3D CAD tool such as NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks.
- You have a solid grasp of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including statics, mechanics of materials, and fluids.
- You are willing to get hands-on with fabrication, assembly, and testing.
- You can explain and defend your design decisions clearly.
- We value experience with student project teams like Formula SAE, Baja, solar car, electric boat, or rocketry, especially if you held a leadership role.
- Bonus points for experience with composites, machining, welding, 3D printing, FEA, or design for manufacturing.
