About the role#
Arc is building electric marine technology to update an industry that has seen little change in decades. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern on the Powertrain team, you will take ownership of hardware projects from initial specifications through prototyping, testing, and high-volume manufacturing. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Torrance, California, for the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Design mechanical, thermal, and fluid systems.
- Engineer parts using a mix of hand calculations, software, and physical prototyping.
- Build and test hardware components directly.
- Support the development of next-generation marine products.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Hands-on project experience.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, thermal, and fluids engineering fundamentals.
- Basic experience with CAD software.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for engineering parts.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Bonus points for experience with Matlab, Simulink, FEA, CNC machining, CAM, sheet metal manufacturing, or shop tools.
- Interest in high-performance electric vehicles, solar cars, Formula SAE, or boating.
