About the role#
Arc is looking for a curious, hands-on engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering team in Torrance. You will work alongside engineers, technicians, and quality partners to solve real production challenges. With mentorship from a full-time engineer, you will own a scoped improvement project from start to finish. This involves observing processes, collecting data, implementing solutions, and measuring results. We want someone who enjoys spending time on the production floor and turning ideas into practical improvements.
What you'll do#
- Observe production processes and perform time studies to identify bottlenecks, excess motion, rework, and opportunities to reduce build hours.
- Create and improve work instructions, process flows, and assembly sequences with input from technicians and engineers.
- Design, prototype, and validate tools, fixtures, and shop aids that improve repeatability, ergonomics, and build quality.
- Support root-cause investigations into production issues and help implement corrective actions.
- Partner with design engineering and quality to improve manufacturability and support the introduction of new parts or processes.
- Use build and quality data to compare performance before and after changes, documenting results and lessons learned.
- Present your project, results, and recommended next steps to the team at the end of the internship.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience building, assembling, testing, or improving hardware through coursework, a student team, research, an internship, or personal projects.
- Foundational understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and common manufacturing or assembly methods.
- Basic ability to create or modify parts in a 3D CAD tool.
- Ability to organize and analyze data using Excel, Google Sheets, or a similar tool.
- Clear communication, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to solving problems.
- Willingness to work hands-on in a production environment, follow safety procedures, and learn from technicians.
- Experience with composites, bonding, trimming, finishing, mechanical assembly, or battery manufacturing is a plus.
- Exposure to time studies, standard work, line balancing, lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement is helpful.
- Experience designing fixtures or using machining, 3D printing, or other fabrication methods is a bonus.
- Familiarity with NX, Teamcenter, a manufacturing execution system, or digital work instructions is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Torrance, California.
- Term: Summer 2027 (June 14 to August 20).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $36 per hour.
