About the role#
As a Data Scientist student in the Sales organization, you will support strategic business goals by providing data insights, reporting, and analytics. You will work alongside Sales Professionals, Finance, Operations, and Senior Leadership to break down complex datasets and deliver clear, actionable decisions. This is an 8-month, full-time co-op position running from January to August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Modernize production ETL/ELT pipelines and build automated batch pipelines.
- Implement pipeline monitoring, observability, and data quality checks.
- Optimize database schemas, warehouse models, and query performance.
- Migrate legacy workflows into Apache Airflow and document job dependencies.
- Architect agentic workflows, RAG systems, and custom LLM applications.
- Support the Canada AI Knowledge Hub through knowledge base design and content structuring.
- Develop evaluation frameworks for AI systems to detect hallucinations and benchmark performance.
- Build AI agents for data reconciliation and monitoring across multiple systems.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis, statistical modeling, and feature engineering.
- Develop multi-factor scoring and tiering models for business and carrier analytics.
- Deliver reporting and visualizations using tools like Tableau.
- Contribute to data cataloging, metadata efforts, and dataset curation for business teams.
- Write tested, documented code and participate in peer code reviews.
- Present project milestones to technical and executive stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, with plans to return to studies after the term.
- Proficiency in Python and data libraries such as pandas and NumPy.
- Command of SQL and relational database concepts, specifically PostgreSQL and Snowflake or similar systems.
- Hands-on experience building end-to-end data pipelines or applications.
- Experience with Git and collaborative version control.
- Foundational knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and software design.
- Familiarity with LLMs, their failure modes, and appropriate use cases.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
